We carried on up the Meuse toward Dinant through spectacular scenery between towering rocky cliffs. Some great locations (like Anhée, above) and big stylish houses, this must be the more affluent part of Wallonie. From this mooring I cycled ahead to Dinant and scoped out the moorings in the town and sussed the best time to arrive on Saturday since another British barge had told me when they were leaving.
Scouting ahead meant that we got the best spot in town, just across the river from the main hubbub and opposite the great cathedral and citadel. Brilliant views and lots going on. We had a pontoon berth with electricity and limited water right in the centre, we didn’t mind paying for a berth for once and started enjoying Dinant.
We had lunch overlooking the river on a busy Saturday; there was plenty to watch while waiting and friendly service made all the difference. Dinant is very photogenic so below is a small selection of our best efforts.
